We seek a candidate with teaching experience in introductory American Studies courses with a specialization in at least one of the following areas or fields: Indigenous cultural studies, Black cultural studies, and/or critical mixed race or comparative race studies, or critical ethnic studies.
The position involves teaching four courses per semester (eight total for the year) and service to the department. We seek a candidate who would be open to teaching large lecture courses for the department. The candidate will augment our department’s existing strengths in public humanities and ethnic studies. |

The UMBC History Department seeks to hire a Historian of Vast Early America for a full-time tenure track position at either the Advanced Assistant or Associate Professor level. We are interested in identifying scholars whose work challenges traditional and conceptual boundaries and are especially seeking scholars whose work draws attention to the agency, humanity, and complexity of marginalized, enslaved, and indigenous peoples. Preference is for those who work on time periods prior to the late eighteenth century since we are looking to complement existing strengths in late eighteenth and nineteenth-century America. Subfields of interest include Indigenous or Native history, Caribbean, borderlands, environment, race, and ethnicity. We especially welcome applicants with experience and interests in Public History or the digital humanities.
